Create and customize reports

The Windows report designer edits REPX report definitions. Start with a copy of an existing report so that you retain its data queries, parameters and structure. For the browser designer, see Reports and data exchange.

Store a report for one project

Create a Resources folder next to the project's .ztproj file. Beneath it, use the folder for the relevant element type, such as TestCase, TestPlan or TestRun.

A report filename starts with report- and ends with .repx. For example, Resources\TestCase\report-My test cases.repx appears as My test cases in the Reports context menu for test cases.

Copy a shipped REPX report from the installation's resources into this project folder and rename the copy before editing. Locate the installed resources for your installation rather than using a path copied from an older version.

Edit and test the report

  1. Open Zeta Test Management Report Designer from the Windows Start menu and open the report copy.
  2. Use Edit DataSet to edit queries and relationships. Use this integrated command rather than the designer's alternative data-source connection commands.
  3. Arrange fields, bands, tables and charts, then save.
  4. In Zeta Test Management, right-click the relevant project element and select the report under Reports.
  5. After further changes, save the definition and refresh the report preview with F5.

Application-supplied parameters may not be available in the designer's own preview. Test the report from Zeta Test Management with a representative project.

Parameters and detail reports

Inside a report query, put a report parameter name in double braces, for example {{ElementID}}.

For several independent tables in one report, add separate detail-report bands and assign each its data source and table. Give the outer report a source that returns exactly one row, so that its detail reports are not repeated for multiple outer records.

Subreports

Store a subreport beside its master report. Add an XRSubreport control to the master and select the subreport file. When sharing the master DataSet, define matching data structures and supply the master's data source before the subreport prints. Test parameter passing and results from the application.
