Requirements workflow

This Windows workflow takes a Word requirements document through import, review and creation of linked test cases. For creating and updating documents, see Working with requirements.

Import the requirements

  1. Select Requirements or the destination requirements folder in the project tree.
  2. Open the context menu and choose the Word import command under Import/Export.
  3. Select the DOC or DOCX file. If subsequent revisions will be imported, prepare the document using the wizard's preparation option.
  4. Select the chapters to import. Check any initial review status offered by the wizard.
  5. Start the import, read the completion message and check the imported document in the tree.

Review requirements

When requirement reviews are enabled in project settings, edit a chapter, set its review status to For review and assign the review group. Project review settings can send notification emails when a chapter enters a status that requires review.

Assigned reviewers find pending tasks in their workbook. Double-click a task, inspect the chapter, enter a comment if needed and record the review decision.

Create test cases

Right-click the chapter and select the command to create test cases. Select the destination test unit in the wizard. Create at least one unit in the test library before starting if no destination exists yet.

The selected chapter and eligible child chapters become linked test cases. Project review settings determine whether chapters that have not been approved may be used. Allowing unapproved items also affects adding test cases to test plans.

Continue with Planning test runs and Performing test runs.

The overview of a selected item shows its related items. You can also open Linked elements from the tree's context menu, sometimes under More, and use Go to to navigate to an item. See Linked elements for the effect of removing a link.
